I want to see technology integrated seamlessly into places of education. This means that technology is not the focal point of the teaching, yet it is perfectly suited to support the instruction.
So many times I see classes that are trying so desperately to incorporate technology that the actual instruction and curriculum are lost behind the new tool. As places of education try to keep up with the explosion of new technology and educational tools, I have seen in many cases administrators buy technology and services without doing a needs assessment to see what educators and classrooms in that system really need or want. A classic example is the SMARTboard. SMARTboards seemed to be the trend for a period of time and places of education were quick to install them in classrooms, without proper planning or training of educators. This left many of these tools being used as little more then glorified projector screens.
I love technology and immerse myself in it daily. I see the endless possibilities, yet funding must be given to proper planning and training for technology to be incorporated seamlessly. When technology can be blended with the pedagogy and content without outshining it, then a balance has been reached and learning can take place and excel to new heights.
